Song of Myself

A lone girl sitting on a handmade wooden deck,
Gazing up at the dark star filled sky,
Alone in the cold.
That girl is me.

I am a day-dreamer,
I get caught deep in though, like I’m swimming
In my own sea.

I am quiet and shy and
As unique as each star I stare at in the sky.

I am brilliant and beautiful as a diamond, but
Stuck in the rough because all I see is
Coal.

I am as tough as a diamond because I never shatter.
No matter what has happened, I still manage
To stay together.

I am filled with pain and heartache
Piercing my heart of gold.
I do for others before even getting to me.
If they’ve had a bad day I try to make them happy.

I always give without thinking of receiving,
I wonder what it’s like to be appreciated.
I am the person who gives that somebody
More chances than they deserve.

I am the one no one sees especially when it comes to my family
A lover of animals, on land and sea, an ambassador of what’s right
A girl who would rather be in the water
Than on earth.

Music expresses my soul
Writing is my truth
Reading is my escape
I am me,
The dreamer no one sees.
